Anyway, to make it more interesting, my first blog of 2009 will be about American Idol!
Why is it interesting? I never follow American Idol except for this year! Why the exception? Beats me! I just felt like watching for once and since I have a decoder that has this cool record function, I might as well put it to good use.
The one contestant that I have been following very closely is Danny Gokey. I guess if I were to answer the question "Why the exception of following American Idol this year when you didn't for the last 7 seasons?" again, I would say it's because of Danny.
Danny has a very interesting story. Four weeks prior to his American Idol audition, his wife passed away. I am sure it wasn't easy for him to go into the competition after losing someone so dear to him. Yet he demonstrated the strength and character that has brought him this far. When he entered into the last 36, he sang "Heroes" and said during the interview prior to singing the song that he wanted to encourage others to be strong when they feel weak just as he has. He was also quoted saying:
“What I want to portray to people is to look inside themselves and to find strength. My wife had a heart condition her whole entire life, endured two surgeries when she was younger. She went through this third surgery that she didn’t live through.
But my wife, she didn’t live life like she had a condition. She didn’t let any limitations be put on her life. That’s what I think about when I sing. I have such a passion to tell people, ‘Get up, get out of your situation that has brought a lot of heartache to you and move on, move forward.’”
He is a testament of his faith in Christ and as a worship Director in his church. I think so far, he has carried himself very well and I believe he will be blessed whether he wins American Idol or not.
Here are the two songs he sang which I absolutely loved:
