"Negaraku" played in the Olympics for the first time?

Since it's first appearance in the Olympic Games, Malaysia has won a total of 3 medals. All of which came from badminton (click here for source of info). Out of the 3 medals that Malaysia won, 1 was a silver and 2 bronze. The gold has alluded us for a very long time.

Today, badminton has again provided us with hope to see our very own standing at the top of the podium receiving the coveted Olympics gold and going on to seal a place in Malaysia's history to be the first to win the gold for the country.

Lee Chong Wei (currently world no. 2) defeated Sony Dwi Kuncoro of Indonesia within 34 minutes in straight sets booking a place in the semi-finals against Republic of Korea's Lee Hyunil (
click here for source of info). Lee Chong Wei kept Malaysia's hope of winning it's first ever Olympic gold alive by beating Lee Hyunil in 3 high tempo sets.It is a great achievement and one that Malaysians can be proud of.

We can hope and cheer for our hero, Lee Chong Wei, that on 17 August 2008 20:48 (GMT +08:00) he would be the first Malaysian to bring home an Olympics gold and for the first time in Olympics history, "Negaraku" will echo throughout the Beijing University of Technology Gymnasium.

Despite the divide in our political landscape, let's in unison cheer our very own, Lee Chong Wei! Let it be our desire to hear "Negaraku" played in the Olympics and the "Jalur Gemilang" raised on the highest pole.

MALAYSIA BOLEH!
